An Evening of German, French and Spanish Art Songs
Elizabeth and Olga will present a recital of German, French, and Spanish Art Songs, with works by Franz Schubert, Richard Strauss, Hugo Wolf, Claude Debussy, and Joaquín Rodrigo.
BIOGRAPHY
Soprano Elizabeth Marie Thomas is passionate about a wide variety of music, from opera to musical theatre to jazz and pop. Some of her favorite roles include Adele in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, the title role in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Princess Ida, Susanna in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, and Johanna and the Beggar Woman in Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd. She holds a bachelor’s in music from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a master’s in music from Appalachian State University. She studied opera in Graz and Salzburg, Austria, and has sung throughout Germany and Austria. She is a frequent performer at various churches, retirement communities and other venues in the DC, MD and VA areas.
Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, Olga Volkova graduated with honors from the Herzen University Institute of Music (St. Petersburg, Russia), where she studied solo piano with Tatiana Zagorovskaya, collaborative piano with Vladimir Gourevich and chamber ensemble with Pavel Eliashevich. Later she continued her studies at Mannes School of Music in New York City (The New School), where she completed her Master’s degree in piano performance under Eteri Andjaparidze. Olga Volkova has extensively performed in Russia, Europe and the USA, as soloist and collaborative pianist, and has won several prestigious international piano competitions throughout her career.
