Jazz, Swing, and Klezmer

The Seth Kibel Trio will entertain and delight with a program of jazz and swing, with a distinct emphasis on the “Great American Songbook.”  They’ll also provide a small sampling of klezmer (Eastern-European Jewish folk music) which is sure to get your toes a-tapping.  Historical commentary and anecdotes from Kibel will provide an insightful context for their selections.  Program will be announced from the stage.

BIOGRAPHY

Seth Kibel is one of the Mid-Atlantic’s premier woodwind specialists, working with some of the best bands in Klezmer, Jazz, Swing, and more.  Wowing audiences on clarinet, flute, and saxophone, Seth has made a name for himself in the Washington/Baltimore region, and beyond.  He is the featured performer with The Kleztet, Bay Jazz Project, Music Pilgrim Trio, The Natty Beaux, and more.  Winner of 28 Washington Area Music Awards (Wammies), including “Best World Music Instrumentalist” (2003-11) and “Best Jazz Instrumentalist” (2005, 2007-8, 2011-14).  His most recent recording, “Clown With A Stick,” was released in May 2023 on the Azalea City Recordings record label. He’s won numerous prizes in the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest (MASC) including the Grand Prize in 2016 and a Gold Prize in 2022.  When he’s not performing, Seth frequently lectures on a variety of topics in music history for numerous institutions, including the Osher Lifelong Learning programs at Johns Hopkins and Towson Universities.

For over 20 years Sean A. Lane has kept a busy schedule playing piano or keyboard across the DMV region.  Whether as a solo pianist, in a duo with multi reed player, Seth Kibel, or playing in a combo like Bay Jazz Project, he has played music at public & private events in venues such as Blues Alley, the Kennedy Center, Smithsonian Museums, Keystone Korner, Rams Head Annapolis, and MGM Casino at National Harbor.  Originally from Schenectady, NY he now lives in Crofton MD with his wife & 2 boys.

Bob Abbott is a freelance bass player and arranger in the Mid Atlantic region. His performance experiences range from local events to being a clincian and featured performer at International music festivals in Croataia.  Bob is an endorsed artist for JanAid Basses, GuitarStrap.It, Acme Bass Speakers, Nitewalker Preamps, & Rigotti Cables.  In addition to Bob’s career in performance, he is the Guitar Director, Music and Theater Technology, and Music Theory instructor at Arundel High School in Anne Arundel County.
