Biographies

Maya Lončar is an award winning Croatian-American guitarist with a passion for performing and teaching while carrying an energy that commands attention on any stage. She began her studies at the age of six with her father and has since then been invited as a guest artist for multiple concerts and festivals throughout Europe and America. She has performed as a guitarist and a violinist in a multitude of prestigious venues, including three separate performances at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. Maya holds top prizes from competitions including the Appalachian State Guitar Festival Competition, the Charlottesville Guitar Festival Competition, and the Southern Guitar Festival Competition. In February of 2020, she was runner-up for the Eastman Concerto Competition where she performed Heitor Villa-Lobos’s Concerto for Guitar. She has also had the pleasure of working closely with some of the world’s most legendary guitarists such as David Russell, Pepe Romero, and Berta Rojas. In addition to her solo career, she is also an experienced chamber musician, having most recently performed in a concert tour with her trio, Triple Tango.

As highly versed and accomplished guitar duo, Nataša Klasinc and Miroslav Lončar have been concertizing together for over twenty-five years. This husband-and-wife duo has performed at a variety of music festivals and concert series across the United States, Canada, and Europe. Their performances have been described by numerous concert presenters and music critics as: “eye-opening”, “outstanding”, “one of the best”, a “moving musical experience”, “enlightening”, “sparkling”, and “performed with uncommon virtuosity and musicality of the highest order”. Klasinc&Lončar Duo’s concert programs blend baroque, classical and romantic compositions with Lončar’s original works, transcriptions, and arrangements of Croatian and other Mediterranean folk styles and music of the Viennese tradition.

Nataša and Miroslav formed their duo at the University of Graz, Austria, where they both studied classical guitar with professors Marga Bäuml and Martin Mysliveček. Soon after forming their duo, they won the Best Guitar Duo Prize at the International Guitar Competition Toyoko Yamashita in Berlin. They both received their Doctor of Musical Arts Degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. The Klasinc&Lončar Duo can be heard on five CD recordings: A Fantastic Journey— a CD with original compositions by Lončar, Images—with works for two guitars, Con Spirito—mostly Lončar’s transcriptions for two guitars and cello, a CD accompanying the music book Danzas of Puerto Rico, and the Christmas Album released by Aguado Guitar Concerts.

Miroslav and Nataša are also active music teachers, event organizers, and happy parents of two musician daughters.

“…precise ensemble… high degree oftechnical mastery… stunning.” ― Soundboard.
