BIOGRAPHY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Violinist Benjamin Scott<\/strong> joined the National Symphony Orchestra in 2018 and maintains a lively chamber music career in the DC area.  He has served as guest concertmaster of the New Orchestra of Washington and in acting title positions with the Eclipse Chamber Orchestra and National Philharmonic.  A frequent substitute with The Philadelphia Orchestra and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Verbier, Aspen, and Pacific Music Festival orchestras, Ben has performed for audiences on three continents.  You might have heard him in promo music for the Super Bowl or seen him on stage with Aretha Franklin, Ne-Yo, Ben Folds, Chris Thile, or William Shatner.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ben values the many ways that music has a positive effect on the community.  He is a regular musician for NSO In Your Neighborhood and Sound Health initiatives as well as other organizations with missions of inclusivity.  For years, Ben volunteered with Musicians on Call, and he can often be found introducing new audiences to live string quartet music at Candlelight Concerts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a small-business owner and the craftsman behind Atelier Benno, Ben keeps busy designing and creating high quality leather goods by hand.  He also loves exploring new corners of the world, entertaining his daughter, learning to cook different cuisines, bothering his cat, and bringing new life to his 1780 Giuseppe Guadagnini violin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Malorie Blake Shin was appointed to the second violin section of the National Symphony Orchestra by Music Director Gianandrea Noseda in October 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally from New Hampshire, Blake Shin grew up in a musical family. She started on the piano but soon began playing the violin in her older sister’s footsteps. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Music degree at Boston University, studying with Lucia Lin. As a student, she was the winner of the School of Music Bach Competition. Blake Shin continued her studies at Rice University Shepherd School of Music, receiving her Master of Music degree under the instruction of Sergiu Luca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blake Shin has appeared with many orchestras throughout the United States, including the Detroit Symphony, Houston Symphony, Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, Honolulu Symphony, and the Baltimore Symphony. When she is not on stage with the National Symphony Orchestra, she can be heard performing with the Eclipse Chamber Orchestra and the National Chamber Players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lauren Ellis Scott<\/strong> is a dynamic violinist, violist, and music educator in and around the District of Columbia. She has performed with ensembles including American Institute of Musical Studies Festival Orchestra, Charleston Symphony, Delaware Symphony, Schenectady Symphony Orchestra, The Philly POPS, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Eclipse Chamber Orchestra, and the Maryland Lyric Opera, and she has worked with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Andrea Bocelli, Linda Watson, Bobby Vinton, Ledisi, and Steve Martin. Lauren has recorded music with NFL films for Super Bowls 50, LI, and LII, and her award-winning students have enjoyed performances around the United States and China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lauren holds degrees from Temple University and Stony Brook University, and her teachers include William de Pasquale, Kerri Ryan, Emily Schaad, and Richard Roberts. She has worked as a teaching artist for The Philadelphia Orchestra Association, Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, Western Connecticut Youth Orchestra, Greenville County Youth Orchestra, 9th Street Chamber Music, DC Youth Orchestra Program, and American Youth Philharmonic, and she maintains a small teaching studio guided by the principles of Shin\u2019ichi Suzuki. Together with her husband, Lauren regularly performs as a Musician on Call at Children\u2019s National Hospital in addition to other concert, community, and special event performances. Alabama native Raymond Tsai<\/strong> began with the National Symphony Orchestra as assistant principal cellist in September 2025. Prior to joining the NSO, Raymond studied with Richard Aaron and pursued his bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan. Beginning cello studies at eight years old, Raymond discovered his love of orchestra playing during fellowships at the Pacific and Tanglewood music festivals. Outside of classical music, Raymond enjoys athletic activities and noodling around on the guitar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
