The program opens with a hauntingly beautiful prelude by the Venezuelan guitarist, Alfonso Montes. This is followed by Fernando Sor’s monumental Fantaisie élégiaque – an emotional lament and the composer’s final work. The program continues with Rivera’s virtuosic and exciting composition, Whirler of the Dance, originally written as the set piece for the 1998 GFA Competition. Concluding the concert is Merlín’s Suite del Recuerdo – a work dedicated to the memories of thousands that were lost to the junta in Argentina. The suite features South American melodies and dance forms, ending with a joyful and hopeful Joropo.

Program

Preludio de Adios (A.
