Women Around the World presents music by four women composers whose works, spanning centuries and continents, are united by a deep sensitivity to nature and emotion.
The program opens with Sofia Gubaidulina\u2019s “Sounds of the Forests” and “Allegro Rustico”, where the delicacy and raw power of the natural world find musical expression, before moving to Clara Schumann\u2019s “Three Romances”, whose lyrical warmth and intimacy embody the German Romantic tradition while asserting her individual voice. From there, Tebogo Monnakgotla\u2019s “It is the Lark that Sings\u2026” (2022) captures the spontaneity of dawn through birdsong-like motifs and airy textures, leading into Yuko Uebayashi\u2019s “Sonata”, whose impressionistic sound world blends lyricism with nature-inspired imagery.
Woven together, these works create a journey across cultures and histories, with flute and piano as storytellers of birdsong, emotion, and beauty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIOGRAPHY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Praised for his \u201clustrous tone\u201d (Musical America) and his \u201cfull tone, exacting articulation and interpretive intelligence\u201d (New York Classical Review), Italian flutist Giorgio Consolati is committed to presenting programs that span from masterworks of the flute repertoire to newly commissioned works, always striving to captivate and engage his audiences. His career highlights include solo and chamber music performances at New York\u2019s Carnegie Hall, David Geffen Hall, Miami\u2019s New World Center, and the Beijing China Conservatory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An avid chamber musician, Giorgio has performed at the Marlboro Music Festival, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and in venues across New York City\u2019s Lincoln Center. Dedicated to expanding the flute repertoire, he regularly transcribes works from other instruments, and collaborates to premiere and record works by living composers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A native of Milan, Giorgio is the first flutist in his hometown Conservatory\u2019s history to graduate with top honors and honorable mention. As a proud recipient of a Kovner Fellowship, Giorgio earned both his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of Carol Wincenc. Giorgio is continuing his education with a Doctorate of Music degree under the guidance of Marina Piccinini at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, where he previously earned the prestigious Artist Diploma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pianist Hui-Chuan Chen leads a diverse career as a concert pianist, chamber musician, and educator. She has performed widely throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, and has appeared in major performance venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Supreme Court of the United States of America. She was featured at the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado, the National Gallery of Art and Phillips Collection in Washington DC, and the Barge Music Festival in New York City.
Since completing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, Hui-Chuan is devoted to teaching and academia. She currently holds faculty and collaborative positions with the Peabody Institute and the University of Maryland Baltimore County. She previously served as faculty for the Washington Conservatory of Music and the Heifetz International Music Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
