This is the first of my own series of programs that I call “Standing on Giants’ Shoulders” (SGS), dedicated to exploring and rediscovering monumental classical works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This program, “Chapter one: HammerKlavier – Beethoven Reimagined”, focuses on Beethoven’s most significant piano sonata, Op.106 “HammerKlavier” which will be the center piece, and will also feature a commissioned work by Dr. Daniel Pesca that is inspired by HammerKlavier. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preparing this program has been a joyful and exciting journey, and I am delighted to share it with the audience at Emerson Avenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIOGRAPHY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A native of Taiwan, pianist Hui-Chuan Chen<\/strong> began piano lessons at age four and made her debut performance at six. As a successful soloist, chamber musician, collaborative pianist and educator, Hui-Chuan has traveled and performed widely throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For her solo performance, she has won numerous prizes at competitions including the Wonderlic piano competition in Baltimore, Concerto Competition of International Music Festival in Siena, Italy, Kaohsiung City Competition, Kawai Piano Competition, the University Piano Concerto Competition of NTNU, Taiwan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a chamber musician, she performed at Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, and Supreme court of the United States. She worked with accomplished musicians such as cellist Amit Peled and Flutist Demarre McGill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hui-Chuan holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University where she is also a faculty member in the preparatory division. She also serves on the faculty of the University of Maryland Baltimore City, Washington Conservatory of Music and the Heifetz International Music Festival in Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For season 2024-2025, Dr. Chen starts with the inaugural concert of her own treasured project \u201cStanding on Giant’s Shoulder\u201d (SGS) at the Emmanuel Episcapal church in Baltimore. This project is dedicated to create and discover new meaning to classical master works, and commissioned new compositions inspired by it. Other performances includes \u201cMusic in the Valley\u201d at St. John\u2019s, Western Run, MD with YaoGuang Zhai, Principal Clarinet at Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Bo Li, cellist from Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
