Jeremy and Howard Bass<\/strong>, a father-son duo, have performed together at the Barns of Rose Hill and on the acclaimed Emerson Avenue Salons chamber music series in McLean, Virginia. This October (starting the day after playing on the Emerson Avenue Salon series) they will be recording an album of Renaissance lute duets and 20th<\/sup> and 21st<\/sup> century duets for guitar. The album, titled Then & Now<\/em>, will be released early in 2025. They will play selections from the recording, including the first recording of Spanish composer David del Puerto\u2019s \u201cDiciembre,\u201d which is dedicated to them, lute duets by English and Italian composers, and music of the celebrated contemporary Cuban composer Leo Brouwer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Howard writes: “We’ll begin with lute duets from Italy and England, then switch to guitar for duets by David del Puerto, Andres Segovia, Leo Brouwer, and Max Reger (originally for piano, arranged by Ferdinand Rebay). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We’ve had a Kickstarter campaign going for the past five weeks; it will conclude on October 11. The campaign has been wildly successful–we’ve raised 160% of our goal! If anyone wants to pledge support before Friday, we’d welcome it. Our goal was modest and, we hoped, achievable: $5000, not really enough to cover all the costs of a recording. The $8000 pledged to date will come close to covering our costs, but we certainly welcome any further contributions!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIOGRAPHY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his nearly six-decade career as a musician, Howard Bass<\/strong> has performed and recorded with Trio Sefardi, La Rondinella, the Baltimore Consort, HESPERUS, Flory Jagoda, Barbara Hollinshead, and the Smithsonian Chamber Players, among others. He was a program producer at the Smithsonian Institution for three decades, and he also produced several recordings for the Smithsonian Folkways label.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeremy Bass<\/strong> has three postgraduate performance degrees (a master’s and a doctorate in classical guitar performance, and a second master’s in early music), a Fulbright Scholarship, and a solo CD (dedicated to the guitar music of David del Puerto), and is finding success as a freelance musician in Europe. He is a member of Suspirium and Sibila ensembles, and plays regularly with Cantate Karavaan and many others. He recently made his debut at Het Concertgebouw, accompanying Maarten Koningsberger and the BRISK Recorder Consort on theorbo and lute. Jeremy also served two years in the Peace Corps, in Ecuador, following his graduation from Virginia Commonwealth University. https:\/\/www.jeremyandrewbass.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
