Takoma Jazz has boiled down 10 of Horace Silver’s most significant arrangements to a Classic Jazz Trio format.

PROGRAM

SISTER SADIE

THE JODY GRIND

STROLLIN’

DOODLIN’

NICA’S DREAM

SEñOR BLUES

OPUS DE FUNK

PEACE

SILVER’S SERENADE

SONG FOR MY FATHER

BIOGRAPHIES

From a musical family, John Howard played many instruments before beginning piano study in his senior year of high school. He has a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from UNC-Chapel Hill, where he attended on an Andy Griffith Scholarship. While in Chapel Hill he also played in the jazz bands and performed with drummer Louis Bellson and trombonist Al Grey of the Count Basie Orchestra.

John began teaching music at the Edmund Burke School in Washington, DC in 1989, where he founded the music department. John’s Burke bands have performed at Blues Alley annually for over 15 years. They are founding performers of the Big Band Jam on the Mall, appearing every year since inception in 2004. Since 1995 they are annual participants in the Georgetown Day School Jazz Festival.

In 2014 John co-founded Takoma Jazz with colleague Eugenio Ibarz, which ranges from solo piano to a quintet with horns and/or vocals. Evolving from a duo with bassist Eugenio on guitar and then bass, they have worked together for over 15 years, performing at countless events throughout the DC area.

Dan Perriello is a born drummer. When his parents couldn’t afford a drum set or lessons, Dan began air drumming with chopsticks – reading, watching and listening to everything he could to teach himself drums. Finally acquiring a vintage Rogers set two agonizing years later, he joined his first band and played his first gig within months. In the more than 30 years since, Dan has performed with countless top Washington, DC musicians at major venues such as the 9:30 Club, HFStival, and Nationals Park, opening for acts ranging from Andrew WK and Gavin DeGraw to comedian Bob Sagat. He has drummed on several EPs and full-length albums, including the Wammie-award winning “Second Place Confession” by Bicycle Thieves and “Wanderlust” by Laura Burhenn. Writing and recording original songs under the name Amateur Hour, Dan has had music from his recording “This Year’s Epiphany” licensed to television networks and programs such as “Diners, Dives and Drive-Ins” and the Golf Channel. A passionate musician and educator, Dan brings the same joyful exuberance to his performances and lessons as he felt when he got his first kit.

Bassist Eugenio Ibarz was born in Barcelona (Spain). He learned classical guitar, and then transitioned to jazz guitar. In the 90’s he was a freelance guitar player and teacher, giving lessons and playing electric guitar and bass in different bands. Eugenio moved to the U.S. in 2002, where he taught guitar for a number of years, and has been performing actively in jazz groups and other musical styles in the DMV area since 2018.

If you’d like to receive Emerson Avenue Salon invitations, you can add yourself to the invitation list HERE.

Sunday November 20, 2022 Emerson Avenue Salonlines Proudly Presents a Live YouTube Broadcast – A “hybrid” concert – Takoma Jazz Trio John Howard, PianoDan Perriello, Drums Eugenio Ibarz, Bass A Tribute toHorace Silver Photos courtesy of Jeff MacMillan (John’s photo), and Noah MacMillan (Takoma Jazz logo) Horace Silver, a titan of the […]

["post-5567","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
