Biographies<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Recognized for her \u201ccalm technical control, extraordinary vigor, and flawless musicality,\u201d (Derni\u00e8res Nouvelles d\u2019Alsace<\/em>, 2013), Dr. Mathilde Handelsman<\/strong> is a concert pianist, poet, and educator from Paris, France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2020, Mathilde’s d\u00e9but album devoted to Claude Debussy, Images<\/em>, was released for Sheva Collection. Passionate about French music, she regularly gives lecture-recitals on Debussy and champions the piano works of the late Roger Boutry (Grand Prix de Rome, 1954).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlights from the 2019-2020 concert season featured Mathilde alongside Nicolas Namoradze at the inauguration of the Tanglewood Learning Institute in a highly acclaimed two-piano performance. Recent festival appearances include the Tanglewood Music Center, Sarasota Music Festival, and the Wissembourg International Music Festival. Next season, Mathilde will d\u00e9but at Carnegie Hall as a 1st Prize winner of the 2021 American Prot\u00e9g\u00e9 Concerto Competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mathilde was born in Paris to a family of musicians and painters. Her principal teachers are Menahem Pressler, John O’Conor, and Laurent Cabasso. She has also received guidance from Emanuel Ax, Garrick Ohlsson, Peter Serkin, and Robert Levin. After graduating from the Acad\u00e9mie Sup\u00e9rieure de Musique de Strasbourg, Mathilde furthered her studies at the Jacobs School of Music of Indiana University-Bloomington. In 2020, she graduated from the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Shenandoah University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Mathilde Handelsman currently serves as a Resident Artist and piano faculty at the University of New Hampshire. Her work as a poet includes two published volumes, Pr\u00e9-sage <\/em>(2016) and L\u2019Absurde G\u00e9nie des fleurs<\/em> (2017).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edward Cho<\/strong> is a Canadian-Korean cellist, originally from Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. He has been a two-time grand winner of the Competitive Music Festival of New Brunswick, winner of the Ken Murray Concerto Competition, and the Third Prize Winner at the Elora TD Canada Trust Competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a chamber musician, Cho has studied under several acclaimed groups and individuals, including the Takacs Quartet, Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, Stanley Ritchie, Anne Epperson, the Pacifica Quartet, Mark Kaplan, Kevork Mardirossian, Joseph Swensen, and the Penderecki Quartet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cho has been featured as the soloist with Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Stratford Symphony, Wilfrid Laurier University Orchestra, and Symphony New Brunswick. Moreover, Cho used to be a piano major. In 2010, he performed both Edvard Grieg\u2019s piano concerto and Edward Elgar\u2019s cello concerto in a single evening titled \u2018Three Edwards\u2019 with the University of Waterloo Orchestra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having accumulated a unique variety of experience throughout his studies, including conducting, Baroque cello, and advanced music theory, Cho\u2019s desire is to share this wealth of knowledge and a profound joy of music through his performances. Further, having been a mechatronics engineering student with an interest in theoretical physics before music, Cho enjoys serving as a catalyst between the ever-evolving technological advancements and the musical world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is currently based in Winchester, Virginia, where he is completing his doctoral studies at Shenandoah University with Julian Schwarz. He has earned degrees at Indiana University (M.M. and P.D.) with Peter Stumpf and Wilfrid Laurier University (B.Mus.) with Paul Pulford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
