Moderato tempo di bolero<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">The performance concludes with a rousing encore: Johann Strauss&#8217;s &#8220;Tritsch Tratsch Polka&#8221;, arranged by Lauren Scott<\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">Biographies<\/h1>\n<div>\n<p>Australian violinist<strong> Alexandra Osborne<\/strong> enjoys an exciting and versatile career as an orchestral and chamber musician, solo artist, and teacher.\u00a0She was appointed to the National Symphony Orchestra by Christoph Eschenbach as the youngest member of the violin section in 2009, and most recently was the Acting Assistant Concertmaster.<\/p>\n<p>Recent highlights include her debut album of world premiere Nico Muhly and Philip Glass works out now on ABC Classic, tours across Australia and the USA with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, founding board member and violinist of Jackson Hole Chamber Music, a concert on the \u201cKing Louis XIV\u201d Amati at the Smithsonian American History Museum, Guest Concertmaster with the Auckland Philharmonia, the Dvorak Piano Quintet with Maestro Eschenbach, the Fortas Chamber Music Series, and concerts at the Lucerne, Bonn, Grafenegg and Rostropovich Festivals, and the BBC Proms.<\/p>\n<p>A graduate of Curtis and Juilliard, she currently plays with the Omega Ensemble in Sydney, the 21st Century Consort, Chiarina Chamber Players, Eclipse Chamber Orchestra, and frequently performs with The Last Stand Quartet. With a keen interest in fostering young talent, she is a teaching artist for the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, the NSO&#8217;s Youth Fellowship and Summer Music Institute programs, and recently joined the faculty of the Hawaii Youth Symphony, whilst maintaining a private teaching studio in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benjamin Scott<\/strong> joined the violin section of the National Symphony Orchestra in 2018 after years as a dynamic freelance musician. He performed and recorded with the Pittsburgh Symphony and The Philly POPS, and acted as associate concertmaster of the National Philharmonic. As a frequent substitute violinist in The Philadelphia Orchestra from 2012-2018, Benjamin enjoyed many new and unique experiences ranging from tours throughout Europe and Asia to performing for Pope Francis at the World Meeting of Families in 2015. He has performed in cities throughout North America, Europe, and Asia with the Verbier Festival Orchestra, the American Institute of Musical Studies Festival Orchestra, the Star Wars \u201cIn Concert\u201d Symphony, the Pacific Music Festival, Artosphere\u2019s inaugural season, and on Branford Marsalis\u2019s \u201cWell-Tempered\u201d Tour, and he has recorded music for the NFL\u2019s use at Super Bowls XLVII to LII.<\/p>\n<p>As the third Fellowship Recipient to be appointed to the NSO, Benjamin values the many ways that his community engages in music. He has performed more than fifteen benefit concerts for the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic Association, and he has collaborated with members of the Nottingham Ensemble for performances in support of Encircle and the Boulanger Initiative, organizations with missions of inclusivity. Benjamin participates in concerts that bring music to different neighborhoods in the District of Columbia, curates music therapy sessions in partnership with the Levine School of Music, and volunteers as Musician on Call at the Children\u2019s National Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>When he isn\u2019t playing his 2016 Guadagnini copy by Samuel Payton, exploring new corners of the world with his wife, learning to cook new cuisines, or playing with his cat, Benjamin loves to craft leather goods by hand!<\/p>\n<p>Moscow native <strong>Anna Khanina<\/strong> started her musical education at the age of five, and in 1996 she graduated with honors from the Gnessin School of Music .<\/p>\n<p>Further studies include Master\u2019s Degrees from both the Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow and the University of Music, Drama, and Media in Hannover, Germany, as well as Performance Diploma from Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.<br \/>\nIn 2014 Ms. Khanina became a Doctor of Musical Arts after completing the Doctoral Program at the State University of New York at Stony Brook where she was a full-scholarship student of Gilbert Kalish.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Khanina\u2019s performing career spans the continents of Asia, Europe, North and South<br \/>\nAmerica, where she regularly appears as a soloist and with chamber music ensembles.<br \/>\nAnna is a laureate of many international piano competitions. Her guest appearances include engagements at the Schleswig-Hollstein Music Festival, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and Music Festival at Banff Centre.
