An evening of charming and engrossing music for cello(s), capitalizing on the unique and vast range of the cello as both a solo instrument and in ensemble.<\/h4>\n

Program features neglected works by Hailstork<\/strong>, Prokofiev<\/strong>, Holst<\/strong>, Offenbach<\/strong>, Vivaldi<\/strong>, Lee<\/strong>, and more. This lesser known music is virtuosic and fun, and at times somber and reflective, but always inspiring!<\/p>\n

Biography<\/h1>\n

Mr. Ismar Gomes<\/strong>, ‘cellist, attended graduate school at the Peabody Conservatory.\u00a0 He has performed in dozens of recital series throughout the USA with Wan Chi Su (“Duo Sorolla”), often collaborating with other renowned musicians in a wide range of music including most of the standard repertoire for cello and piano, as well as lesser known music.\u00a0 His recitals bring together varied works that explore new and traditional approaches to expression, and\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 enjoys guiding audiences along this journey through each unique program.\u00a0 Over the past several seasons, Ismar has commissioned and premiered works from William Weigel, Aaron Malone, Larry Nelson, and Mark Hagerty. Apart from these special projects, he also championed the works of Lera Auerbach, George Walker, and Aaron Jay Kernis, and is keen to work with and promote the works of other living composers.\u00a0 Mr. Gomes studied much of the repertoire under the tutelage of Colin Carr, Tom Sauer, Michael Kannen and other distinguished artists.<\/p>\n

Cellist Katlyn DeGraw<\/strong> is a seasoned performer with recent appearances around the globe, including concerts throughout the U.S., Canada, and Asia.\u00a0 In demand as an orchestral cellist, Ms. DeGraw is the Associate Principal Cellist of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, and appears frequently with the Richmond and Annapolis Symphonies.\u00a0 Additionally, she has performed with the Baltimore and Charleston Symphonies on numerous occasions.\u00a0 Equally passionate about chamber music, Ms. DeGraw has been a guest on a number of concert series in the region and is the founding cellist of the Ann Street Trio, based in Baltimore. \u00a0 In addition to her performing, Ms. DeGraw is a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher.\u00a0 She is on faculty at the Baltimore School for the Arts, and maintains a private studio of successful and engaged students.\u00a0 Ms. DeGraw holds a Bachelor degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Music where she studied with Amit Peled, and a Master degree from the Eastman School of Music where she worked with David Ying.<\/p>\n
