WHAT????? —-Pianist Alex Hassan AGAIN????<\/strong><\/h1>\n

\"\"<\/a>Yes,\u00a0 Alex once again offers his twenty fingers (result of nuclear test site irradiation-very useful!), certain to entertain his captive audience, shut-in friends, acquaintances, and anyone else dial-twisting<\/em>.\u00a0 The menu of pianistic confections will include a tribute to Santa Barbaran pianist-composer, Robin Frost, who passed away a few months ago, aged 90.\u00a0 Robin wrote in an unforgettably melodic,\u00a0 toe-tappingly rhythmic, and inimitably virtuoso style.\u00a0 This is the first time Alex is daring to play several of these pieces in public, and he hopes for divine intervention.\u00a0 Also on the program, a couple of memorable 1940s transcribed jazz solos by American pianist, Joe Sullivan, a medley of romantic to uptempo songs by brilliant Tin Pan Alley pianist\/songwriter, Rube Bloom (ie., Fools Rush In), and a Grand Fantasy on the delightful melodies heard in 1930s Warner Bros. cartoons.\u00a0 Yup!\u00a0 A Grand Fantasy on Looney Tunes\/Merrie Melodies!

As in previous concerts, Alex will provide, between numbers, anecdotes, historical context, and, most importantly, shtick.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Biography<\/h1>\n

Alex Hassan<\/strong> has been in total immersion 1920s\/30s Tin Pan Alley Popular\u00a0Piano Styles therapy for over 40 years.\u00a0\u00a0A pupil of a pupil of a pupil\u00a0of a pupil of Franz Liszt (well\u2026it SOUNDS impressive?!), he has been a\u00a0torchbearer for the melodies of between-the-wars Broadway and Hollywood\u00a0(and European equivalents), devoting himself more specifically to\u00a0collecting and resurrecting the great \u201clate Romantic with a beat\u201d\u00a0popular songs that really never had a chance.<\/p>\n

His archival collection of [mostly] popular\u00a0piano solo and vocal sheet music numbers around 45,000 titles, entirely\u00a01920s\/30s. It is a tribute to those heady musical times that there is\u00a0still so much left to find.<\/p>\n

Alex has performed internationally at such venues as England\u2019s Aldeburgh\u00a0Festival,\u00a0\u00a0Husum (2007 & 2015\u2013\u201cPiano Rarities Festival\u201d), Washington\u00a0DC\u2019s Kennedy Center, the Coolidge Auditorium (Library of Congress),\u00a0various Manhattan\/Baltimore\/Washington night spots, and national ragtime\u00a0festivals.\u00a0\u00a0He has recorded prolifically for England\u2019s SHELLWOOD PRODUCTIONS,\u00a0\u00a0Los Angeleno label OPERETTA ARCHIVES, and Pennsylvania\u2019s\u00a0STOMP OFF, and has produced\/annotated several reissues of the virtuoso\u00a0popular pianists of the 78RPM period, for both Shellwood and the\u00a0Pittsburgh company, RIVERMONT (for which he has also recorded, along\u00a0with two brilliant singing friends).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
